Your First Class
Bring Water and Slip-ons
Please bring water, as FJJA provides free water fountains and water bottles to all members. However, it is recommended to bring water in case the fountains are unavailable.
Slip-on shoes are recommended for ease of access to walking in and out of mat areas without risking hygienic concerns.
Wear Athletic Clothing
FJJA recommends activewear (ie, shorts, athletic t-shirt, and leggings)
GI’s may be provided for new students.
Have a Positive Outlook
Bringing a positive attitude to your first class can greatly improve your learning speed and provide the best time to develop bonds with other students or instructors.
Our classes usually go as stated:
Warmups: Basic exercises such as jogging, forward & backward rolls, bear crawls, double-leg shots, sprawls, hip-escapes, and cartwheels. Then we move onto stationary exercises or drills such as bridges, guard passes, triangle shots, break-falls, technical get-ups, shadow wrestling, or tug-of-war. Then we end warmups with stretching, vital to staying injury-free in Jiu-Jitsu.
Technique: We teach techniques based on curriculum or skill level, depending on class size/skill. We always try to implement one standing move (Wrestling, Judo, BJJ, occasionally MMA) and two sitting moves (BJJ). We may also do positional training based on the techniques we work, also called Specific Training.
Live Training: At the end of most of our regular classes, we do Live Training. This training showcases skill level and physicality via training with a variety of partners by sizes or skill levels. This may also be very occasionally substituted for other things, like games or other activities.
Stretching/Line-up: At the very end of our classes, we stretch and then bow out of classes after hearing announcements or promotions made by instructors.

KIDS CLASS FAQs
At What Age Can My Child Start?
Farmington Jiu-Jitsu Academy starts kids from the ages of 7-12ish.
Will My Child Be Protected During Classes?
Although FJJA cannot guarantee an injury-free environment, we try to keep it as low as possible by partner tapping, first-aid kits, portable ice bags, and controlled techniques/environments.
How Much Should My Child Train?
For the best results in Jiu-jitsu within a period, we’d recommend your child trains at a minimum twice per week. Of course, we also understand if you cannot achieve these statistics.
How Will I Know My Child Will Have a Fun Time Socializing?
At FJJA, we can ensure that your child will know the ins and outs of the team and will be accounted for at all times, never to be left out based on any factors.
