OUR CLASSES
TEENS / ADULTS GI JIU JITSU
GI Jiu-Jitsu classes are conducted using a traditional Gi uniform. Using the GI will enhance the use of the technique and grips against the material. The GI can be purchased online with any vendor or at Farmington Jiu Jitsu. This class primarily focuses on how to utilize the GI grips to your advantage for both standup and ground techniques. Keep in mind, the utilization of the GI is transferable to No-GI, so we believe both methods should ultimately be trained to enhance the skill level of the Jiu-Jitsu practitioner.
TEENS / ADULTS NO-GI GRAPPLING
Our No-Gi grappling classes are taught using form-fitting rash guards and shorts. The class focuses mostly on wrestling and fast-paced ground techniques for the more dynamic No-Gi style of grappling. No-Gi uniforms can be purchased online with any vendor or purchased at the academy.
This class may be challenging for incoming individuals with no prior physical experience in terms of endurance and physicality. Although it is challenging, it is fun, and our instructors will always allow a practitioner to rest as needed with no judgment!
LIVE TRAINING
Live training classes/times are focused on sparring rounds with short breaks between. Most live training classes will begin with a warmup round, followed by regular open mat training and a light cool-down. Training partners are free to choose between using the GI or No-GI.
Participants MAY take breaks or water breaks as they please.
KIDS / YOUTH CLASSES
(AGES 7 to 12-13 ish)
In July 2023, we introduced classes for children aged 7-12. Kids up to 14 are allowed to train with the class if they are not ready to join the adults class. The classes are 50 minutes long with technique instruction 3 days per week, and Saturdays will focus on an hour of live training (i.e., rolling/sparring). A routine kids’ class consists of warm-up drills that will increase the child’s physical coordination. We will then move on to a Wrestling or Judo takedown technique. After the takedowns are drilled, we move to the ground to teach techniques to enhance the child’s ability to work out of the bottom position, maintain top position, and learn how to submit their opponent.
Your kid will benefit by learning realistic self-defense skills, overcoming adversity, developing hand-eye coordination, becoming athletic, getting in shape, becoming stronger, more flexible, more agile, developing interpersonal skills, making new friends, and most importantly, having fun! We do our best to accommodate each child’s needs, as each child’s personality can be different.
