Assistant Coach, 1st Degree Brown Belt

Although a brown belt, Assistant Coach Jerol James has more than enough experience to be considered a “professor.”

Jerol began his jiu-jitsu journey about 2 decades ago along with his friend, Luke Harwood using a public gym for the beginning of jiu-jitsu within the Farmington area. They would both run this program for months before Professor Luke would leave to pursue further education in Albuquerque, NM. During this absence, Jerol would coach at various gyms within the Four Corners, and would tone his jiu-jitsu skills. Jerol taught for around 15 years before the opportunity of Farmington Jiu-Jitsu Academy would arise. Jerol would join the academy and would help coach during his time, becoming a valuable member of Farmington Jiu-Jitsu Academy. He can now be seen coaching kids classes and occasional adult/teen classes. In 2024, Jerol would start his own Sunday class at FJJA from the times of 2:00PM-3:00PM. Which still runs and can be accessed by contacting coach Jerol for more information. That same year, he would also be awarded his brown belt by Professor Luke at a seminar during the summer, by mid-2025, he had climbed his way to his first stripe.
